What’s the deal with pregnancy fatigue?

Even though fatigue is very common during pregnancy, not all women experience the same level of tiredness. Some feel just slightly drowsy, while others might feel the need to sleep all the time. Exhaustion can be caused by factors like the weight of your growing baby and the extra work your body is doing to nurture them. Additionally, the constant need to wake up at night to use the bathroom or change positions can disrupt your sleep cycles, making it difficult to get a restful night’s sleep.

Furthermore, pregnancy-related symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, back pain, and hormonal changes can contribute to daytime fatigue. Mental tiredness can also play a role, as constant concerns for your baby’s health can take a toll.

This is where relaxation exercises come in handy. Connecting your body and mind through practices like prenatal yoga or other exercises that help clear your mind is highly recommended. To replenish your energy, consider treating yourself to a good massage and ensuring you’re getting enough nutrients through a balanced diet. Fatigue is particularly common during the first trimester, so it’s a good idea to save activities that require the most energy, such as setting up your baby’s nursery, for the second trimester when you may feel more refreshed.

Remember, it’s important to listen to your body and prioritize self-care during this precious time. Give yourself permission to rest when needed and seek support from your loved ones. By taking care of yourself, you’ll be better equipped to enjoy the journey of pregnancy and prepare for the arrival of your little one.
